Life begins in this decade, so you better make sure you’re ready! If you’re about to turn 30, this list could give you some food for thought – if you’re not there yet, read on anyway. This is a to-do list for every girl.
1. Love Yourself
To love yourself is to understand who you are and be content with who you are not. When you love yourself, it becomes difficult to settle for things or people who do not have your best interests at heart.
2. Forgive Yourself
“When you’re happy—you can forgive a great deal.” —Princess Diana
This is so true. Being and staying happy should be at the top of your to-do list every day. But remember, being happy is a lifestyle, not a destination. And forgiving yourself is just as important as forgiving others. Forgiving is not for others, it’s for you—to release old baggage, break from virtual shackles, and clear mental space for your ultimate spiritual and mental growth.
3. Beauty and Brains
Prioritise your mental well-being—you’re no good to others if you’re no good to yourself. This is tied to the idea I mentioned above. Your mental health is more important than anything else, really; because in order to love, forgive, and take good care of anyone including yourself, the number one priority for you is to be free of mental clutter, confusion, and turmoil.
4. Take The Trash Out, Occasionally
Let go of toxic people and relationships—they do not serve you in any way that benefits you. If anything, they are tests that you must pass in order to attain emotional maturity and spiritual elevation.
5. Have Your Back
Life is full of lessons and battles. Now, not every battle is worth fighting, but when the battle involves you—make sure you stand up for yourself. Show your backbone, set your boundaries, and have no qualms about it. People will respect you for having respect for yourself. Remember, it is you who sets the standard.
6. Impart Wisdom
Show others that you have self-discipline, wisdom and the understanding that everything that is spoken doesn’t need a response. Also, understand, know, and be ok with not always being right. There are many intellectuals walking this earth, and not one of them knows it all. Every interaction you have is a learning experience.
7. Be Unapologetically You
God created you in his image—you are unique and wonderfully made—unique fingerprints and all. If you recognise that your character and personality may need a little fine-tuning, so be it; but never change who you are, or your beliefs and values, with the sole intention of impressing others.
8. Embrace Human Nature
One of the absolutely inevitable things in life is making mistakes. We can stunt our growth by allowing the fear of mistakes to overcome us. Though this fear is understandable, keep in mind that if you are scared to make mistakes, then you are scared to learn and grow—embrace the imperfections of being human. This is to say—“humans are not perfect”, but, God did create us perfectly—he made no mistakes.
9. Your Road Dogs
Life can be hard on you and when it is—it really helps to have a good friend or three by your side. Remember, you must be a good friend to have good friends. Yes, there may always be that one person who slips through the cracks. Don’t stress—as said before, toxic people and relationships are only tests you must pass, to elevate yourself emotionally and spiritually. You know what to do with them—pass with flying colours. Embrace those good friends who have your back and love you unconditionally.
10. Embrace Your Womanhood
Society has a lot of rules—some biased, some absurd. So don’t be afraid to love your curves, or the lack of them. The thing about being a woman is that we are innately inclined to play out our femininity—embrace it. Do whatever makes you look and feel good. Dress up your womanly figure while adding personality to your look whenever you like. Just be sure to embrace and have respect for your womanhood. -------------------- **Originally posted between year 2013-2016 [date to be confirmed].
